Yoga unites mind, body, spirit, and helps you make new friends!
It is not about how it looks but how it feels.
It is exciting to connect with yogis, but it fascinating to photograph them, especially when they are graceful and determined. I had the pleasure to photograph and ask Ashlee Blake about her yoga practice.
For me, the yoga experience is unique and personal. We all come to our mats, from different places, to surrender and find peace, to strengthen mind and body, or escape from the outside world. Many of us have been overwhelmed in a warrior, terrified in a handstand sesh, or helpless in a savasana? I would say most of us.
These humbling moments connect us all.
I asked Ashlee a few questions, and she was cool with sharing about her yoga experience and practice with us.
How did you find yoga?
A: I found yoga through my nana(grandma) when I was around 11. When I stayed with her, she would take me to yoga classes. I loved it immediately! I was in dance growing up, and to me, yoga is like a dance.
What are some of the most challenging things in yoga for you?
A: “I would say I have two things, one going upside or being inverted lol it’s terrifying! And two staying with my breath in my Asana and in my daily life. I would like to try to take more time to meditate.”
What keeps you going?
A: “The thing that keeps me going and what I love about yoga is there is no end. You can always improve yourself! There is always a new pose to try!”
What is it like to be a yoga teacher?
A: “ I honestly don’t have the words lol When I teach a class, my heart feels so full it is overflowing, with love, inspiration, purpose, literally all of the above! I love connecting with my yogis, watching them overcome poses that they never saw possible, or giving them an hour of peace from the stress of their daily life.”
Certainly inspiring! Thank you for sharing Ashlee 🙂
